Interesting offering from Google.

Google Sync allows you to synchronize the contacts and calendar on your phone with your Google account. Still in beta (as always) but it is definitely a good alternative to a paid service although I can’t vouch for reliability as yet since I haven’t tried it out yet. The app allows one to:-
        •        Synchronize your Contacts with Google
        •        Depending on your phone, get Google Calendar events to your phone
        •        Make changes either on your phone or on the Web

Works with:
iPhone
BlackBerry
Nokia S60
Nokia standard
Sony Ericsson
Windows Mobile

Note that carrier charges will apply.

IMPORTANT NOTE
Google Sync uses the Microsoft© Exchange ActiveSync© protocol. When setting up a new Exchange ActiveSync account on your iPhone, all existing Contacts and Calendar events will be removed from your phone. Please make sure to back up any important data before you set up Google Sync.

At the request from a few people, I will continue to post here until June before I make the full transition to my new site

If you have multiple macs running at different locations, one of the most frustrating situations to be in is with your Safari bookmarks (assuming that you prefer Safari over Firefox) and you don’t have a MobileMe account.

Well, fret no more, Foxmarks has just released a Bookmark Sync add-on for Safari users. The add-on allows you to:-

  • Bookmark Sync
  • Backup and Restore
  • Online Bookmarks Access
  • Bookmarks Sharing
  • Sync Profiles
  • iPhone Bookmarks Sync

You can get it here

This will be my final entry in WordPress or any other public blog for that matter.

I have decided to shift everything into my own site which has been sitting idle since last year. I might as well capitalize on what I have and make full use of it. At least I have better control to the overall design and content. I will divide my content into proper sections. At least those of you who are here for the tech stuff will get a lot more than now and those who just want to know what’s been happening to me will have a section on its own.

Why am I doing this? Well, I have decided to shed away the past and start everything anew. I am now “Version 3.01” This seems to be the best way to leave whatever unpleasantness I have experienced over the past few years and concentrate on being me again.

It’ll probably take a few days for me to make the transition…. so 12 hours from this post, you can look me up at:-

    Craniumology 404

I’ll try to expand the site as much as I can afford the time and hopefully, you will enjoy reading it as much as I enjoying putting up the entries.

    Rock on!

Reports are coming in about the malicious “Curse of Silence” SMS message that renders your Nokia S60 3rd Edition (Initial or Feature Pack 1) phone incapable of receiving new SMS messages once activated.

The folks at Nokia have issued a SMS Cleaner for this. You can get it here if your phone is affected.

I think I am going to get blasted for what I am about to say by the fanboys but then again, I feel that I have a valid point, so I will make this short sweet and simple….

Motorola – Start doing something original. Make phones that make us want to own one of yours again. Your losses are hitting the billions. An over-priced phone such as the Aura can only appeal to so many people. No Wi-Fi, 3G and a mere 2mp camera? Even the rich would want a mobile with better specs. You can start by looking around and see what the other phone manufacturers are doing. Keep with the times. Hire industrial designers with some proper design sense.

Samsung – Upping the megapixel count isn’t innovation. Rumor has it that a soon to be 12mp camera phone is coming. Do we really need it? Packing in more and more photo-sensitive dots onto teensy weensy chips is just going to give people noisy, low quality images with huge file sizes. So even if you up the megapixel count and retain a low level Complementary metal–oxide–semiconductor (CMOS) sensor, it will not do the megapixel count justice.

Sony Ericsson – You used to make great cellphones that are easy to use with designs that rock. Why in the world did you decide to use Windows Mobile on the Xperia X1? Save for your highy touted X1 Panels, it is still a Windows Mobile device under the hood. So what if UIQ is dead, there are better platforms out there (I don’t need to name them). Didn’t it ever occur to you that the on-screen controls can get to be very small when the OS is running at such a high resolution on a 3.1″ widescreen display?

At least the Palm Pre is doing something else for a change

This is probably old news by now, but for the benefit of friends out there who do not know about this…

Two strains of Trojan Horses for the Mac, notably – OSX.Trojan.iServices.A and OSX.Trojan.iServices.B have been found embedded in pirated versions of iLife ‘09, iWork ‘09 and Photoshop CS4. The malware obtains root privileges, and notifies the remote host of the infected computers location on the Internet. Found installed in the startup items folders ( /System/Library/StartupItems/iWorkServices ) the trojan connects to a remote server notifying it of the infected computers location on the net awaiting further instruction including the ability of downloading additional components.

Just to be on the safe side (you know what I mean now, don’t you), you can get a removal tool from SecureMac.
